The Suicide Squad Art Imagines Task Force X Fighting Justice League

A new piece of fan art inspired by The Suicide Squad imagines surviving Task Force X members fighting Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

New fan art inspired by The Suicide Squad imagines Task Force X fighting the Justice League. Best known for his work on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, writer/director James Gunn’s first DC project, The Suicide Squad, represents a fresh start for the DCEU. His take on John Ostrander’s Task Force X was released in theaters and on HBO Max earlier this month, introducing returning members from 2016’s Suicide Squad to newcomers, including Bloodsport and King Shark.

At the beginning of The Suicide Squad, it’s revealed that Idris Elba’s Bloodsport is incarcerated for putting Superman in the ICU with a Kryptonite bullet. Being that Warner Bros./DC Films has abandoned the Snyder-Verse and Henry Cavill’s future as Superman remains in limbo, it’s unclear if The Suicide Squad is referring to any established depiction of the hero—Gunn himself isn’t sure. It’ll be years before audiences get another Justice League movie and, when we do, the team will likely look a lot different. Regardless, fans would love to see the DCEU’s two biggest teams go head to head.

Digital Artist Malcolm Kenneth on Instagram recently shared some fan art imagining Task Force X taking on the Justice League. The piece sees Bloodsport, Deathstroke (featured in concept art as the team’s original leader), Ratcatcher 2, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, and King Shark facing off with the League. For whatever reason, Flash is noticeably absent. Check it out below:

In addition to combining surviving characters from both Suicide Squad movies, the above piece’s title references the upcoming video game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. The plot of that game will see Task Force X attempt to defeat the League after being brainwashed by Brainiac. If the Suicide Squad were ever to fight the Justice League in a live-action movie, a compelling plot would involve a brainwashed league and/or evil Superman. The epilogue of Zack Snyder’s Justice League not only introduced Deathstroke (Joe Manganiello) but teased a future where Batman and the Joker had to work together to undo their Knightmare circumstances.

While Snyder seems to be done with DC Films, the studio’s relationship with Gunn has only just begun. In addition to The Suicide Squad spin-off series, Peacemaker, the writer/director, has many ideas for other projects set within the DCEU. Gunn has even gone as far as saying he’d love to write and direct a Justice League vs. Suicide Squad movie when the universe commits to an iteration of the League. Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Flash (Ezra Miller), and maybe even Batman (Ben Affleck) remain, but Cavill’s Superman and Cyborg (Ray Fischer) appear to be out. Only time will tell how Warner Bros will address the last two vacancies.
