D.C. among three finalists to host 2024 NFL Draft

Hey, Washington fans: Do you want to boo Roger Goodell?

Of course you do. Well, you may have the chance at the 2024 NFL Draft.

Washington, D.C., is one of three finalists to host the draft in two years, along with Green Bay and Detroit, according to Packers President Mark Murphy. Murphy revealed the finalists during an interview with a Green Bay television station on Monday.

The NFL’s yearly owners’ meetings are held in late March, and Murphy said that’s when he expects to learn where the 2024 draft will be.

If Washington is chosen, it would be the District’s first time hosting the NFL Draft since the AFL-NFL merger in 1966. Unlike Detroit and Green Bay, the nation’s capital has hosted the football draft — in 1941, when the Willard Hotel was used for the event.

While Murphy would obviously prefer the draft be conducted in Green Bay, the nation’s capital might be his second choice. Murphy was a defensive back for Washington from 1977 through 1984. His red-zone interception in Super Bowl XVII helped propel Washington to a fourth-quarter comeback to defeat the Miami Dolphins.

The 2022 draft will be in Las Vegas, and Kansas City will host next year. Fans will again engage in the annual tradition of booing Goodell when he takes the stage.

New York City hosted the draft every year from 1965 until 2014. Since then, the draft has visited Chicago (2015 and 2016), Philadelphia (2017), Dallas (2018), Nashville (2019) and Cleveland (2021).
